Tops – Shop

First off, I have one pair of shoes to show you that I ordered. I was hoping to have two but I’m returning the snow boots I ordered because I didn’t like how they fit around my ankle even though they were the cutest ones I’d seen online. Poop. I ordered these flats from Modcloth (LURVE this website) and even though I ordered a half size too big, I have insoles from Aldo that make them practically fit me. Aren’t they adorable?!

white flats

Some days after dropping my husband off I head to the drive-thru Starbucks which is next to a mall. I get my chai tea latte and leave it in the car to “peep” in a store or two quickly while it cools. Today I went to “peep” in Old Navy to see if they had any of the sweaters with the animals left. Unfortunately they didn’t. So instead of leaving, I did what always makes me feel less guilty – check clearance. Hey, if I’m not supposed to be getting anything else then I can feel less guilty about spending a lot of money ;). I came across the shirts below: two plaid flannel shirts ($11.49 each) and one striped cotton shirt ($8.99) [and they’re giving out Old Navy cash right now to be redeemed between 1/31- 2/6]. When I saw the striped shirt I immediate saw it with some white shorts and the flats above for a very fresh Summer look. I’ll have to post that look when I do where it in the Summer because our Spring can still be very wet. I was also considering getting another pair of the rockstar jeans in corduroy but they didn’t have my size in the color I wanted :(.

20130110-175137.jpgI was recently telling someone how much I dislike turtlenecks. If it doesn’t stick to your neck I’d wear it but the fitted ones I despise. So I had to chuckle when I came across these two ($10.49 each! after an additional 30% off for the closing sale). On Tuesday, I went to a store in another mall to run an errand and I was walking back to the entrance by where I parked and I looked up and saw a store, that I shop in occasionally, was closing that location and had a sale. WHAT!? I had to give it one last look around as I just got my NYE dress from there and everyone loved it. So I tried on at least 8 sweater dresses of which I put all back (womp) and I came out and saw these turtlenecks in 4 different colours. I tried them on and they looked amazing! Very flattering and the neck didn’t bother me at all. 20130110-175152.jpgI’d probably be classified as a bargain hunter. I prefer to get more for my money (for clothing) but at the same time I splurge on quality items like shoes and bags. I’ve been building my collection of handbags so I that I can only have bags I know I will use throughout the years and not just for the moment. Once I get my camera sorted out I may do short videos just to show you as it may be better than posting pictures all the time. Anyway, enough rambling.

Thanks for reading!

New Year Changes

Happy New Year!

I know I started a new blog and then disappeared but I had a very hectic Christmas vacation that included A LOT of unexpected travel. All of that will be on my other blog but this post I about my plans for this year fashion-wise. So let’s get to it!

Last year I refused to set goal based resolutions. I didn’t want something looming over my head in writing that I wasn’t able to achieve. I just wanted to look back on the year and say that I had become a better person and learned some valuable lessons.

I’m currently writing this blog on my last flight home after reading People’s Style Watch and Lucky magazines during a layover. Everything is about “New Year… New You… New wardrobe… Get ready for Spring!” (you get the point) and I was instantly inspired. I decided that this is my year for change. To form new habits that could only be beneficial in the long run. I was also struck by the fact that I’m turning 26 and I am eager to grow into a more “polished” woman. When more mature people haven’t seen me for a while, like when I return home, I’m always greeted by the phrase “you’re looking like a woman now!”. This can be annoying after a while but it is also positive affirmation that I am moving in the right direction with regards to how I carry myself.

With that said, this year I intend to complete a closet overhaul. No more hanging on to maybe’s, or what has the potential to come back in style. If it doesn’t fit or I haven’t worn it in the last 6-12months, it’s gone! I’m also cleaning out my underwear drawer and having a closer look at accessories. Clothes aren’t the only items that need to be spring cleaned!

A closet overhaul is just part of the transformation though. I would like to put more into my face routine. I definitely do not use many of the products I’ve accumulated as often as I should so I’m going to work on that as well. I’m heading out tomorrow to get some products and there will be at least two haul posts by the end of the week. I ordered some stuff while I was away that I’m extremely excited about and I can’t wait to put together outfit ideas.

I don’t intend to change who I am overnight and have family and friends wondering who I’ve become, but just enhance what is already here and not look like someone dragged me out of bed or I barely made the effort. I know I’m not the only female who feels better about herself after putting on a little eyeliner or lipstick or nice underwear. It’s the little things. Like if people randomly smile at you or pay you a compliment, you feel inclined to keep doing whatever got you the compliment in the first place. A sunny disposition also helps and as they say, a smile is your best accessory.

The last leg of our trip was a wedding with my husband (who was the bestman) in Orlando. I got many compliments on my dress from Lulus and I also just got a fresh haircut from my friend two days before 🙂 On the left is before the wedding, on the right I’m with my handsome husband all danced out (the rolled up sleeves ;)).

DipticTo a new year with many positive changes and hopefully not an empty wallet! 😉

Christmas gift ideas – girlfriends pt 2

In the last post, I mentioned some gift ideas that were suited for stocking stuffers, persons travelling or posting gifts (outside of the country). Since then, some other ideas have come to mind that would be good if you do not have to post or travel with your gift that would be good for the fashion conscious. All of the following images are taken from The Container Store but can most likely be found on Amazon or something similar can be found there. Either way, you’d have an idea

Jewelry Storage/Organization

These four are just examples of endless possibilities when it comes to jewelry storage. Again, you could always customize according to the person – they like (long) necklaces, you can buy different types of storage for them.

Make-up Storage

I have a few of the items shown above, so I have listed them knowing that they are definitely a hit. I was in denial when I bought the lipstick holders because I didn’t take into account the amount of lip balms and glosses I had as well. When purchasing lipstick holders, it is best to observe whether your gf collects lipsticks or lip glosses because these short lipstick holders do not hold up long lip gloss containers well. If they do, consider getting a bowl or jar for them to use as storage.

Closet Organization

This scarf hanger is perfect for the girly girl and adds a speck of color to your closet – it would be easy to spot where your scarves are if your closet is a little packed. A belt hanger isn’t as exciting so I wouldn’t really suggest that unless you’re adding it to something else and your gf is fixated with belts. Cute containers for storing nail polishes and other mani/pedi related items can also be considered while adding a nail polish or nail treatment to it as a little extra.

Another option

I’m sure there is still time but you can also check www.mynamenecklace.com and get them a necklace with their name or initials a la Carrie from Sex and the City :).
