My Current YouTube Obsession

Over the weekend I was watching DulceCandy (who I mentioned in my other blog is a huge inspiration to me) and I started watching other random hauls and videos. I came across a make-up video with a title that drew me in at first glance: “Basic Makeup: A whole bunch of tips”. This struck me because of the word “basic”. I don’t wear a full face of make-up so whenever there is some simplified version of something I’m all for it. After watching this video I kept going through the vlogger’s videos and I skipped through the stuff I know I can’t do yet but just tried to get to know her. I can say I’m currently following her on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Her name is Tatiana Ward and she goes by BeatFaceHoney. Besides the basic tutorial, I liked that she is using products people with darker skin tones tend to use. YouTube has been very instrumental in helping people’s careers take off (the talented and not so talented) but I love coming across people like Tatiana who are down to earth and genuinely care about helping you out, and I hope that she is able to have her career really take off asap. Over the weekend I watched a haul where the person was so concerned about the way their hair and nails looked that I don’t even remember half of what her haul was about, and I wasn’t interested in watching anything else from her.

I’ll definitely keep posting my YouTube obsessions on here because in this age of sharing, it would be selfish to keep such great finds to myself! Check out the vid below and let me know what you think!

Christmas gift ideas – girlfriends pt 2

In the last post, I mentioned some gift ideas that were suited for stocking stuffers, persons travelling or posting gifts (outside of the country). Since then, some other ideas have come to mind that would be good if you do not have to post or travel with your gift that would be good for the fashion conscious. All of the following images are taken from The Container Store but can most likely be found on Amazon or something similar can be found there. Either way, you’d have an idea

Jewelry Storage/Organization

These four are just examples of endless possibilities when it comes to jewelry storage. Again, you could always customize according to the person – they like (long) necklaces, you can buy different types of storage for them.

Make-up Storage

I have a few of the items shown above, so I have listed them knowing that they are definitely a hit. I was in denial when I bought the lipstick holders because I didn’t take into account the amount of lip balms and glosses I had as well. When purchasing lipstick holders, it is best to observe whether your gf collects lipsticks or lip glosses because these short lipstick holders do not hold up long lip gloss containers well. If they do, consider getting a bowl or jar for them to use as storage.

Closet Organization

This scarf hanger is perfect for the girly girl and adds a speck of color to your closet – it would be easy to spot where your scarves are if your closet is a little packed. A belt hanger isn’t as exciting so I wouldn’t really suggest that unless you’re adding it to something else and your gf is fixated with belts. Cute containers for storing nail polishes and other mani/pedi related items can also be considered while adding a nail polish or nail treatment to it as a little extra.

Another option

I’m sure there is still time but you can also check www.mynamenecklace.com and get them a necklace with their name or initials a la Carrie from Sex and the City :).

Christmas gift ideas – girlfriends

I’ve been placed on a budget for Christmas gifts. This meant I had to get creative in deciding what to get my girlfriends that was meaningful and not too pricey. So I decided to look around and see what my favorite items were and collect them. I also have to look for items that won’t be too bulky to pack as I’m travelling home with them or shipping them. Because I know some of my friends read this blog I won’t go into details on specific products but just list options that would have them wondering :P. Everything below has a low to high price range so it is always up to you to decide where to get it from while considering the quality of item you are purchasing.

  • Mascara
  • Eyeliner
  • Scarf
  • Nail polish/treatment
  • Eyebrow pencil/kit
  • Lip gloss/lipstick
  • Blush
  • Wristlet with a phone compartment
  • Giftcards in stores that sell all of the above

You got the idea right?

I’ve personalized each gift with something that I see as unique to each girlfriend, something that speaks to wherever their interests/lives are right now. For example, one girlfriend is recently engaged, so something bridal may/may not be included in her gift.

When in doubt (or on a serious budget), Rite Aid, Walgreens, Target, CVS and other pharmacy/drugstores can hook you up. But make sure it’s a product you’ve seen good reviews of or that you yourself consider to be a great product. It always helps that the product has special meaning to you. If you have no limit on spending Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s and Ulta may give you a headache deciding, but at least you know you will find something there that is also of good quality.

Hope this helps!
