My Current YouTube Obsession

Over the weekend I was watching DulceCandy (who I mentioned in my other blog is a huge inspiration to me) and I started watching other random hauls and videos. I came across a make-up video with a title that drew me in at first glance: “Basic Makeup: A whole bunch of tips”. This struck me because of the word “basic”. I don’t wear a full face of make-up so whenever there is some simplified version of something I’m all for it. After watching this video I kept going through the vlogger’s videos and I skipped through the stuff I know I can’t do yet but just tried to get to know her. I can say I’m currently following her on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Her name is Tatiana Ward and she goes by BeatFaceHoney. Besides the basic tutorial, I liked that she is using products people with darker skin tones tend to use. YouTube has been very instrumental in helping people’s careers take off (the talented and not so talented) but I love coming across people like Tatiana who are down to earth and genuinely care about helping you out, and I hope that she is able to have her career really take off asap. Over the weekend I watched a haul where the person was so concerned about the way their hair and nails looked that I don’t even remember half of what her haul was about, and I wasn’t interested in watching anything else from her.

I’ll definitely keep posting my YouTube obsessions on here because in this age of sharing, it would be selfish to keep such great finds to myself! Check out the vid below and let me know what you think!

Friday Round-up

Friday is the one day that if I do any shopping, I’m always extra excited about it. I don’t know why but it gives me a high… then I come down after the realization that I am a shopaholic at heart. Let’s start with what I actually bought on Friday.

I went to Nordstrom to get Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Make-up. My friend tried it out, and when I was walking around the mall with her I picked up a sample. I’m not a wear make-up everyday kind of person so I tried it the night we went out to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Through 3 hours of dinner and about another 3.5 hours in the club I was sold on this product. What impressed me the most was that in the club, as I was wiping the sweat from my face, I didn’t see the product smeared all over the tissue! And at the end of the night, my face still looked like it did when I left home. I probably should have used the sample up but I figured I’d just buy it and I’ll have it to wear for all of the upcoming parties for the season.

While I was there I had an idea of what I wanted to get as a gift for a make-up junkie friend so I was walking around exploring my options. After I sorted her gift, I headed up to BP (Brass Plum – the Junior section of Nordstrom) just to have a look around. I bought the beige scarf with the silver running through it, and as I was at the counter I saw the other two scarves in a bowl by the register. I asked the cashier the price, and when she told me both were $8.99 each, I told her to ring me up! I told you, I have a problem. The beige and pink are infinity scarves and the other one is a regular long scarf. I’ll try to post pics of how I wear them, even though I’m a plain Jane with a hint of style :P.

Now even though I didn’t buy these shades on Friday, they were delivered on Friday so I’m throwing them in. Apart from all of the gifts I ordered Thanksgiving week (before Thanksgiving day and Black Friday), I think this may be considered my Black Friday deal as I got them 50% off. They’re Burberry shades and I was smitten by them and had to get them. My go-to pairs of shades have been Ray Bans (Wayfarer and Aviator style in brown) but as a person who loves variety, I’ve been on the hunt for another pair of not brown shades to add to my collection that I adore and aren’t just for what is in style or everyone has been wearing. I need my items to suit me. My husband isn’t in love with these because of the size but he said they look good. (Sidenote: He calls himself a “fashionasta” and he advises me sometimes on what to wear. It can be very entertaining.) With that said, I’m keeping them.

I guess if I’m doing a blog like this I need to work on my photo clarity. I used my iPhone to take these out of sheer laziness but I’ll work on getting better photos and a better camera as soon as possible.

Just For Laughs:

My husband (please excuse the bush on his face) hijacked my old sunglasses and he’s trying to put on his best Steebie J face (Stevie J from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta). But here I am in the sunglasses shown above :).

Christmas gift ideas – girlfriends pt 2

In the last post, I mentioned some gift ideas that were suited for stocking stuffers, persons travelling or posting gifts (outside of the country). Since then, some other ideas have come to mind that would be good if you do not have to post or travel with your gift that would be good for the fashion conscious. All of the following images are taken from The Container Store but can most likely be found on Amazon or something similar can be found there. Either way, you’d have an idea

Jewelry Storage/Organization

These four are just examples of endless possibilities when it comes to jewelry storage. Again, you could always customize according to the person – they like (long) necklaces, you can buy different types of storage for them.

Make-up Storage

I have a few of the items shown above, so I have listed them knowing that they are definitely a hit. I was in denial when I bought the lipstick holders because I didn’t take into account the amount of lip balms and glosses I had as well. When purchasing lipstick holders, it is best to observe whether your gf collects lipsticks or lip glosses because these short lipstick holders do not hold up long lip gloss containers well. If they do, consider getting a bowl or jar for them to use as storage.

Closet Organization

This scarf hanger is perfect for the girly girl and adds a speck of color to your closet – it would be easy to spot where your scarves are if your closet is a little packed. A belt hanger isn’t as exciting so I wouldn’t really suggest that unless you’re adding it to something else and your gf is fixated with belts. Cute containers for storing nail polishes and other mani/pedi related items can also be considered while adding a nail polish or nail treatment to it as a little extra.

Another option

I’m sure there is still time but you can also check www.mynamenecklace.com and get them a necklace with their name or initials a la Carrie from Sex and the City :).
