Hello! I had an amazing day yesterday and I just wanted to share it with you! I left home feeling all bubbly and colorful with this ensemble so I guess the day could only get better from there :P.
A few weeks ago I signed up for a makeup session at the Laura Mercier counter in Nordstrom for their beauty event which is going on this weekend. When I signed up, the makeup artist (MUA) at the time applied some of the Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer on my face and a really nice blush for me to see what it looked like. I loved it. Unfortunately, when I took my sample home and applied it, it looked nothing like what she’d done in store and I returned it. I later realized this was partly due to the other products I already had on my face. I figured I’d take the session to address what looks I’d like to achieve and find that one product that I want to hold in my arms forever.
Yesterday, I told the MUA who was working on me, that I’d like to achieve a dewy look with a glow on my face, and very light eye makeup. I want to look polished but not made up. And she effortlessly gave me what I was looking for. I was with a friend and for the rest of the afternoon, we were like two idiots staring at each other’s faces and complimenting each other on the great job that the MUAs did. It was also a day of fun girly time.
Let me say quickly that my phone was on the fritz yesterday and suddenly died on me before I could take any proper pictures. I was quite annoyed that I didn’t get a close-up of my eye makeup that was subtle yet amazing. Now on to the products.
I was given a list of every product she used on me but I only purchased two as I thought they were must haves and I didn’t really need the others. There are a few products I do want to highlight and that’s what I’m going to do. One demonstration I was given was on this method of lining the upper lash line with a brush and with a cake eye liner that was mixed with a little water. They call it the Tightline method. She used Bleu Marine on my eyes and there is a special brush that was created to help with the application. I personally am a bit to scared to do it on myself so I didn’t purchase that stuff. What it does is line the lash line making eyelashes look fuller without having to use eyeliner above the lash line. My eyelashes looked very full after. Again, if I’d known this was going to be such an amazing experience I would’ve carried my camera to take pics and have before and afters.
Mascara. OMG! Laura Mercier has this mascara that has a special brush. As the MUA put it, “it has like a mohawk to help comb the individual lashes after you use the fuller side to apply the mascara”. After application on one eye, I looked and my lashes looked two times longer than my other eye without! Amazing!! I’m definitely going back for that one! She ticked “full faux lash” on the sheet but I don’t think that is the name of the mascara and I don’t know which one it is on the website but as I get it I’ll post on it.
Eyelid primer. This is one of the products that I purchased. I always use Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer potion but this base was so pretty on my eyelids that it could be worn alone and very little has to be used. The MUA used Cafe au Lait in the crease of my eye then applied the next product that I managed to get TWO of and only paid for one!
Caviar sticks!!! I LOVED the pigment, texture, packaging and colors of this product! As I said, I paid for the one she used on me, and then I was given one free by the makeup artist who helped me out prior to this event, simply because I came back. Wasn’t that sweet? If you spent over $100 you were given a free gift but I didn’t spend that much and I got it “just because”! The MUA used Sand Glow over my lid then the Cocoa to line my lid for a little depth. Again, so sorry I didn’t get pics of this when it was done! I had random people telling me how amazing my makeup was looking.
So here are the products I left with and swatches below (all products are Laura Mercier so I will just list the names):
Top to bottom:
Eye Basics in Peach
Lip Glacé in Desert Rose (my friend gave this to me from her free gift because she wasn’t a fan of the color)
Caviar Stick eye color in Cocoa (the freebie!)
Caviar Stick eye color in Sand Glow
I have to say that I was very pleased with the result overall. I’ve never had my makeup done EXACTLY how I wanted it done before and even more pleased with the selection of products available to “women of color” (I kind of dislike that term somehow but it’s “politically correct”). I cannot say that Laura Mercier has a line that mainly caters to women of a lighter complexion. I think I prefer this line to MAC, yes that serious.
While walking off lunch, we nipped into Forever21 and I got two very cute purchases! I think I’m a little obsessed with the mustache thing. Maybe because it’s that hint of masculinity that doesn’t make it super girly, and girls don’t have mustaches lol. Ok I’m done here.
Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading! Let me know what products (high or low end that you find really cater to your skin tones please. I’m a bit intrigued with trying different products and see which ones bring out my true beauty and which don’t.
xx
